Clarence & Dyer is a litigation firm devoted to criminal defense and complex civil litigation with an emphasis on parallel civil and regulatory proceedings. Listed in Chambers & Partners USA Guide, 2006 and 2007 (White Collar Criminal Defense), Clarence & Dyer successfully has handled challenging and high-profile criminal and civil cases, representing individual and institutional clients in federal and state trials, grand jury investigations, appeals, administrative hearings, arbitrations and mediations. The firm has expertise in conducting internal investigations for clients in white-collar criminal and regulatory matters, including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and environmental, securities, trade secret, antitrust, and business fraud cases. Our clients include Fortune 500 companies, small closely-held businesses, local municipalities and agencies, and a diverse array of individuals seeking effective representation in resolving complex legal issues.

Although we frequently litigate against government agencies with greater resources than our clients, we succeed by carefully managing pre-trial activity, and focusing sharply on our clients’ ultimate goals. While we handle high-profile cases, our greatest victories often are matters we resolve outside the glare of the media – when we persuade the government to close an investigation without bringing charges against our client. We often work with larger firms, bringing our experience and expertise to internal and regulatory investigations, in which the participation of outside counsel is necessary.

Our lawyers meet the highest standards of excellence. Clarence & Dyer attorneys graduated from top colleges and law schools, have clerked for prominent federal judges, and have earned national academic accolades. Clarence & Dyer is certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE).

Legge and working as a litigation associate at Morrison & Foerster, Ms. Clarence served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender, gaining invaluable criminal litigation and trial experience. She is a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. She has tried major civil and criminal cases in state and federal court, and is widely recognized for her practical approach to solving her clients’ problems. Before joining the firm, Ms. Dyer served as legislative assistant to U.S. Congressman Gerry E. Studds in Washington, D.C. for five years and as a judicial extern for Chief Judge Marilyn Hall Patel in the Northern District of California. Respected by both courts and adversaries, she has served as the co-chair of the Lawyer Representatives for the Northern District Delegation to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference.

Our lawyers thrive in a fast-paced, intellectually-challenging environment, and we take pride in our written work product and oral advocacy in the courtroom. We understand that incisive investigation and excellent written work is often the key to a successful negotiation or victory at trial. At the same time, we are accomplished courtroom advocates and trial lawyers. We can handle the unexpected and turn it to a client’s advantage – blending good judgment and zealous advocacy to achieve the best result.
